Vit D – Sun or Supplement?

May 27, 2013   //   by Anne Russell   //   Blog, Tip of the Week  //  No Comments

Be aware that unless you are seeing enough daily sunshine between March and September – and who does in the UK? you are likely to be low in levels of Vit D.

Vit D shortage can be happening without you knowing, and low levels are indicated in many conditions, including cancer (Anticancer Research publication). Supplementation is easy. Please speak with your doctor or Nutritional Therapist.

Prozac “prison” Yet 47 million prescribed in the UK last year.

To quote an article in the Sunday Times by Kathy Brewis “officially Prozac is not addictive.” Then the article goes on to describe the debate surrounding this drug.

She describes the “torment of trying to escape her addiction”. There is no support for those attempting to get off this drug. Long term use, it appears, has shown up many undesirable side effects, including, according to this article, bone fracture, haemorrhages and stroke.

She calls for, having described her ordeal of wanting to remove Prozac and deal with her issues instead, “time for mental health practitioners to think again about alternative treatments for depression”

David Healy is quoted as author of Let Them Eat Prozac”…….he says “Significant numbers of people find it awfully hard to come off Prozac and, when they do, they endure very physical problems that can go on for years.”

The World Health Organisation says the leading cause of “ill health world wide” will be Depression by 2030.

This is serious. Would you rather not face the issues, hit them before they hit you with continuous stress levels? It’s a long dark tunnel back to health if you are caught up in this web.

Wasting your money on Supplements?

May 13, 2013   //   by Anne Russell   //   Blog, Nutrition  //  No Comments

If you are (happily) taking more interest in your wellbeing, and may have read articles which encourage you to buy nutritional supplements – STOP!

Please be aware that that is what they are – supplements. Firstly, find the correct support (ie qualified professional) to work out if your foodstuff is actually giving you the correct nutrition for your system, not a whole bunch of other people’s. Secondly, then, you can be safely recommended any necessary supplements.

Thirdly, a simple blood test, if you are concerned, taken by your local surgery will inform if you are low in vital nutrients, eg Vit D – of which there has lately been much in the press.

Don’t be unnecessarily alarmed or conned – take these simple steps to save, time, money and worry.

Negotiation – do you know what is needed?

May 13, 2013   //   by Anne Russell   //   Blog, Life Coaching, Tip of the Week  //  No Comments

Do you understand the basic needs of NEGOTIATION?

A daily conversation of negotiation takes place for all of us – from a simple unaware state (eg, what time do you want dinner?) to a formal meeting for the known purpose (eg changing the timetable for shift workers, or settling a chronic dispute.)

To consciously negotiate we need at least two people – though some may argue we can negotiate with ourselves!

Those involved must wish to reach a settlement, and choose to be honest and open about their requirements.

Those involved must also be willing and able to satisfy the needs of the other, not need to be following another’s dictate.

There will be interests in common and interests in conflict, and there must be appreciation of this before an approach is made.

And importantly, those involved  must be ready to compromise.

If there is total agreement about the targets or problems involved, and no actual conflict, then this will lead to a harmonious conversation, and is not negotiation! You may be attempting in fact to have the other totally agree with you, without listening to their needs and reasons why. It is because there are conflicting interests that the need for negotiation arises. And the acceptance that compromise will be required.
